Since moving to Japan in 1999, there have been plenty of opportunities for me to visit the only two cities on Earth to have been destroyed by atomic weapons. Each visit furthered an interest in the history of these weapons, weapons that may be considered both mankind's greatest achievement and its worst mistake. This EP is an attempt to capture the feelings or moods I experienced while learning about the various stages of the development of the world's first two atomic bombs. At times, I felt the pressing urgency of the scientists in various parts of the world as they raced into unknown realms with the goal of providing their respective country with the first bomb. At other times, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude and inefficiency of the dark chemical processes which were responsible for bringing weapons-grade fissile elements into existence in quantity. This has been a frightening, fascinating journey for me, and I can only hope that this EP stirs an iota of the same feelings in the listener.
